A comprehensive review and clear path to future success
A business doesn't grow in marketing maturity and sales performance with a short-term focus on ad-hoc tactics. Success requires a deeper understanding of the business environment and a well-conceived plan of attack.
The Audit Assessment starts us on that path. Through exploratory discussions with your team and behind-the-scenes analysis we uncover relevant insights and provide a reality check on your position in the market.
In the Audit Report we summarise what’s working, what’s missing, and what needs fixing — with a particular focus on the foundational necessities that underpin successful growth plans. We pair this with priority quick wins that keep your momentum up while you're developing your strategy.

How we complete your Strategic Audit in 2 weeks
We specifically developed the Audit service to avoid analysis paralysis (and related strategic planning ailments!). The process enables us to rapidly assess the marketing capability of any industrial business (irrespective of size, business model or maturity or marketing prowess) and provide a strategic audit report in about 2 weeks. This results in a plan of action shaped to fit the strengths, shortcomings, priorities and resources of each business.

FINDINGS
Finally we build out the Strategic Blueprint and 90 day Action Plan. We present this to your team for final review and discuss options for Implementation.

What happens after the Audit?
A completed Audit report is like a roadmap to direct you to your end goals of completing your strategic marketing plan.
The next step involved addressing any critical gaps that were identified in the Audit, such as missing customer insights, performance data, sales process map or market segmentation, to name a few common ones.
Once these items are complete, we can move onto developing the Strategic Plan itself - which logically we break into two components: your strategy and your plan (the tactics). To understand more about this phase, head over to our Strategy & Plan page.

The Lead Consultant
The Strategic Marketing Audit and Blueprint process is run by David Leahy, the principal marketing consultant at Brucey.
Dave brings over 20 years industrial marketing experience in Australia and around the world, working with over 40 small-to-medium-sized industrial businesses (from $5m to $500m), as well as multi-billion dollar global manufacturers including Volvo Commercial Vehicles (Mack Trucks, Renault Trucks) and Acco Brands (GBC, Acco, Rexel, Kensington).
He brings a comprehensive approach to marketing — beyond just digital tactics — to help businesses see their brand from the customer’s point of view, and to develop strategic marketing accordingly.
With extensive experience in industrial marketing and business growth, Dave works across all customer touchpoints (including with sales and customer service teams) to drive real commercial impact.
Still got questions?
Firstly, we work with industrial businesses - those in manufacturing, engineering and construction or related fields.
Secondly, there are two main industrial business types we typically work with:
- Businesses who have not historically been highly marketing-focussed. They are less strategic and more ad hoc tactically driven, don't use metrics well to measure and drive business outcomes. However, they have a challenge or opportunity in their business that now requires a change of approach e.g. new product/service, change in market or competitive conditions, desire to grow/scale.
- Marketing-savvy businesses who already do a lot of the above well. The business has likely grown successfully up until now, but are looking for additional expertise to help them through the next phase of growth. This might involve one of many initiatives, such as developing a new business model, systemising their GTM approach, optimising their systems further for scale, developing a solid strategic framework that can be used to drive bold growth objectives.
Typically 2 weeks from kickoff to delivery. This includes time for review, team interviews (if needed), and preparing your personalised recommendations. We move fast but thoroughly — and keep you in the loop throughout.
One thing our customers have in common in their leadership team is a lack of time. We've built the Audit process to minimise as much as possible the time required from key people.
In total, the process requires about 4-6 hours over 2 meetings, plus some async activities (emails, calls, portal updates). Often if the MD/CEO or other key roles can't or shouldn't be involved in all meetings, we work through this with you in our initial Kickoff Call.
This is a Strategic Audit for the future growth of the business. As such, it should fundamentally involve decision makers who dictate and direct the longer-term company goals, vision and direction. e.g.
- MD/CEO/Owner
- GMs or heads of department
- Key sales and customer service/success roles
- Marketing team
- Other relevant roles as applies to your business e.g. key technical, financial, operational roles
In smaller businesses, we often do the audit with 1 or 2 people key people. As the business grows, we might have 3-6 people in the Discovery workshop, and conduct some 1-on-1 calls with specific team members.
In the Findings presentation meeting, the key people are again present, so questions can be asked and next steps can be discussed and decided upon.
In some cases, we’ll uncover areas where important inputs (like funnel metrics or market data) are missing, incomplete, or not yet usable. When that happens, we’ll discuss two options with you:
- We complete the audit based on the current state of available data, and make note of anything to be done in the recommendations (this is usually fastest); OR
- We pause to help clean up or extract the right data, with any additional scope and cost agreed before proceeding.
Either way, we’ll flag what’s needed and help you stay on track.
Absolutely. In fact, many of our clients come to us after a previous strategy didn’t gain traction, wasn’t followed through, or didn’t connect with reality — or simply on an annual basis, when it's time to do another annual plan.
The audit helps identify what’s working, what’s missing, and how to move forward — whether you're starting from scratch or building on past work.
You’ll receive a full scorecard, a leadership presentation, a prioritised set of recommendations, and a live walkthrough to unpack the findings.
From there, we can help you move into the next stage — whether that’s developing a full growth strategy, delivering quick wins, or scoping additional research or alignment work.
Book a Call
We'll start with a brief call (15-20mins) to discuss your needs. If we're a good match, we can schedule a longer conversation (e.g. 45mins) with key people in the business to agree on your requirements, answer any questions and agree on a scope of services.
